Is Ashes of Creation a Free to Play game or will it have a monthly subscription?

We’re employing a subscription based model, because we believe it aligns with our development philosophy. This allows us to avoid the pay to win mentality many free to play games employ, as well as maintain a steady flow of new content for all our players! Last updated: Mon, May 1 2017 6:07 pm EDT

Will Ashes of Creation be “Pay to Win” so to speak?

Ashes of Creation will not be pay to win, that is our pledge to the community. One of the core principles we set forth with Ashes of Creation is a very strong desire to maintain the game’s even playing field. Last updated: Mon, May 1 2017 6:07 pm EDT

How can you build an MMO for $750k!?

This project is primarily self funded, and we’re dedicated to staying true to our vision and not being compromised. The core product can be delivered with our current capital and the crowdfunding goal. Going forward, we are dedicated to keeping our vision consistent with our philosophies and adding features whenever possible. Unreal engine has helped greatly with this! Out of the box, UE4 is a graphically stunning engine, but most importantly UE4 provides us as the developers, the ability to modify the engine at the source code level. This has been a great help for us, since leveraging technology like this can save companies a lot of money in a big way. We are beyond elated that you are reading this and share our vision! We believe the MMO genre can offer so much more, and be so much better to its players. We have a lot invested in the product, money, time, and a ton of effort with late nights. We have a ton of experience on our team with MMOs and we know how to tackle each hurdle. Last updated: Mon, May 1 2017 6:54 pm EDT

Will there be a microtransaction shop?

Yes, we plan to include a shop for microtransactions. But, the shop will only include cosmetic items. Nothing in our shop will ever be pay to win as we believe this practice greatly hurts the MMORPG genre. Last updated: Mon, May 1 2017 6:07 pm EDT

What is a freehold?

The freehold system is what we’re calling our out of node housing. It consists of a plot where you place buildings that serve different purposes such as farming, smithing or just living! It will have a modular approach and we think it’s a great way for players to express themselves as well as enhance their character. Last updated: Mon, May 1 2017 6:07 pm EDT

What do the different alpha and beta phases mean?

We’ll be doing continual testing of our game until launch, alpha and beta are included in this plan. Alpha 1 will be our very first “closed” test, followed by Alpha 2, Beta 1 and Beta 2. They will take place in that order, but exact dates of each test aren’t available at this time. Alpha 2 will remain active in a persistent state till launch, then will become our Public Test Server. (If you have a key from our weekly drawings, those keys give access to our weekend NDA Alpha starting in Q4 2017) Last updated: Mon, May 1 2017 6:07 pm EDT

What is a “Persistent Alpha?”

We will be unveiling Alpha access to Ashes in two distinct phases, phase 1 and phase 2. Alpha phase 2 is planned as a persistent testing phase of the game, this means access to the testing server will remain open and available till launch. Last updated: Mon, May 1 2017 6:07 pm EDT

What is a monster token and what’s the difference between “Legion,” “Elite,” and “Epic” Tiers?

In Ashes’ we are excited to unveil what we call our “Monster Token” system. Monster tokens are an item that enables players to play as monsters within our “Event” system. These range from playing with your friends as a horde of zombies all the way to a massive dragon yourself! Legion, Elite, and Epic denote the caliber of “Event” in which you will be entitled to participate with an applicable token. Legion being the more common type of event, and Epic being things of truly fitting proportions. Last updated: Mon, May 1 2017 6:07 pm EDT

What is the “Phoenix Initiative?”

The Phoenix initiative reward is an exclusive game instance in which certain players can enter. Think of it as a secret club, where you can socialize with other members. This area will not offer any “Pay to Win” functionality, it will simply offer what the world does in a more personal space. This is an area devs and GMs will often hang out there in their off time, and gives you a chance to interact with them in game! Last updated: Mon, May 1 2017 6:07 pm EDT

What does a guildhall do?

Guildhalls are the ultimate expression of a guild’s power! In Ashes these structures will serve as focal points for a guild, offering any guilds who construct them a whole host of benefits as well as customization options. Whoa, a head start!? Isn’t that Pay to win!?

In our case, no! We’ve limited the functionality of the head start so that people cannot decide the world-scape earlier than others. They’ll most likely be higher level, but it won’t have a direct impact on the server’s decisions early on since the node system will be deactivated (because being a deciding force is a fun part for all our players!). Additionally we are planning headstart specific servers. Last updated: Mon, May 1 2017 6:07 pm EDT

When will i be able to reserve my character / guild name?

Once Kickstart is over all backers will need to apply their unique packages to their Ashes’ accounts. How do the Kickstarter exclusive backer dyes work?

Dyes are normally one time use. The Kickstarter exclusive dye set, is a set of unique colors that will not be obtainable for players who did not participate in the Kickstarter. They work as follows. Normal dyes in game are one time use items, that apply a cosmetic color change on certain items/gear. The Kickstarter Dye Set is assigned to a character from your account management page. These Kickstarter dyes are not usable as normal dyes are. Instead you may use these dyes to override the color of another dye obtained in game. They do not expire, so you may continually override dye colors through the lifetime of your character. Once a dye has been overridden it becomes a bound dye to your character, so the colors cannot be sold for in-game benefit. When a dyed item is sold or transferred, any color changes are reverted. How do the Kickstarter mounts work?

There has been a little confusion over how the mounts from Kickstart will work and when backers can expect to obtain them. In order to clear up any confusion over the system, allow us to offer a brief overview detailing how exactly the mount rewards will be obtained and utilized by any applicable backers. – Basic land mounts will first be obtained through an early quest that is present for all players within any of the starting areas. – Once you have obtained your mount in the game, you will be able to assign your cosmetic skin from Kickstarter to the character of your choice from your account management screen. Once this skin has been assigned to the character, you may use the skin to apply the appearance of your Kickstarter mount to the mount you have earned in game. This does not remove the skin itself, as you can apply it again to any other applicable mount in the future. – If you wish to remove the skin from a character on your account, and assign the skin item to another character you may do so. But it can only ever be active on one character/mount. - The Dawnbreaker is also a mount skin and will be used in a similar fashion as above, but is only applicable to a certain class of mounts. – Aquatic mount skins like the Tidesnapper, are again also used in a similar fashion, but are only applicable to the aquatic class of mounts. BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
